Lower League Debut: The next step [Video]

I have enjoyed my lower league debut and wish I could find the time to play more, but I have never felt so distraught from a FM game till I went up against Fleetwood at the Haigh Avenue, using counter attacking football and still Fleetwood were able to put 4 past a defense that had seemed so solid throughout the season it made a good season a disaster in a matter of 90 minutes of football. Leaving nothing to play for come the 2nd leg I threw all everything I could at Fleetwood, dominating the game throughout but still only coming away with a 1-0 win.

Now I have a dilemma and from what I see it I have three options;

1. Stay at Southport

I have been at Southport for two seasons without promotion, I have been expected to finish 4th for the past two season and have missed that target each time. It is time for;

  • An overhaul of staff as my assistant manager contract has been allowed to expire.
  • Lose of big players to bring down the wage bill.
  • A better scouting team to bring in better players and a more solid defense as well as better wingers.
  • A major review of everything to see my third season the one to take the side up

Resign from Southport

I am thinking if I went to a struggling club it would force a fresher look at a new team and force me to use what I have learned at Southport and implement more holistic and detailed approach, looking more on training and building the squad a little better then I did at Southport as a lot of my learning was tactical. I would move either to a struggling League Two or Blue Square Premier side. Instead of giving up totally and giving a career game ago.

Move back up to the top tiers.

Then again I could start all over again, go to a side like my beloved Liverpool (although they have no money), Manchester City or Arsenal. Using what I have learned from the LLM and implement that in to the easier leagues where I could utilise a lot better the resources available, learning more about the training aspects of the game, squad management and building up a team of scouts that are able to effectively unearth the best talent that Football Manager 2010 has to offer. I really want to use the experience about learning about squad dynamics, personality and how this affects their performances on the pitch.

So what do you guys think? I need some motivation! Feel free to leave a comment below. Feel free to tell me how ugly I am and how annoying my voice is, any feedback on the video is also welcome.

I think you should stay and fight, that’s what I would do. Take some time to search for better players, don’t rely solely on your scouts.

Thank Johnny, I think I am going to stay on at Southport and use the Christmas break off work to turn things around.

I have changed the email subscription out for now so that it is functional and I think that I will do a bit of messing around with the design to get something better in that space.
