In line with a series of training articles that I am looking to publish in the next couple of weeks I am interested to know how many people use the training system and how.
If you do use the training system how do you use it? Feel free to share your own tips.
If you don’t use the training system, why? Please leave your comments as well as voting above.
Training can be a useful tool as you can imagine to develop your players, enhancing attributes in your current squad. Such micro management can have huge influence to long term games. If there is anything you want to see covered in these next series of articles, please tell me.

I’m quite surprised by how many people don’t even do anything with the training. This is an area that can make a huge difference if you want to nuture new talent and make sure your older players keep their attributes up, as much as possible. If you’re serious about trying to develop a team this is very important, as your good players will likely not develop as they should do. In fact for a team that needs to generate some money through selling players on, this is very important. If a player fails to develop, you won’t be able to make much profit from selling him.
One thing I noticed, quite by accident, is that the slider for set pieces can moved quite high without increasing the overall workload by much. Since I discovered this, my players have gained a lot from this.

My assumptions may not be entirely true that no one bothers with the training. The pole has taken an early lead that it is actually customising for positions, which I expected a little bit but not by such a margin. Although it could be argued that the type of people that will read my blog are more advanced FM users anyways and therefore would use this feature anyways.
I do agree that training does give an advantage, but with many of the casual gamers, it is much more about buying the players are playing well and at the peak of their game and usually no need to train them anyways. I think that maybe this could be looked at by SI as I have long said that training needs to have more value to it within the game.
Customerise cannot be a word /o\
As for training I use my own schedules for each position. So atm I have schedules for my GKs, FBs, CBs, DMCs, CMs, Wingers and my STs. Ive only just made the DMC one after bringing in a few more defensive players so Im yet to see how well that one works, but Ive used this training schedule with Ajax and PSV and its done me well, it builds the stats in all the right places for my tactic.
Total fail! Thats all I got to say! that spell checker didnt pick it up last night.
Good to see that is all working for you, I am going to try with Notts County what Fantastic is doing over at LW where he is using different schedules for individual players, as it makes sense that each player will have their own needs.
What do you think to that, I think many other people would do it if FM allowed it to be done easily.
I like the sounds of it but its very high maintenance. You’ll have to keep a constant eye on every player to make sure you are getting the best from them. Might be worth just doing individual regimes for key players and prospects and having everyone else on grouped regimes.

I would want to customize each players schedule however I just don’t have the time and I just use other peoples training and tweak it and Ziggy thanks for the info it is really helping my players.

I fully agree and I hope that SI games can really help in developing different ways in which they can improve the User Interface as well as the coding of the training so that it becomes much better to use.
What knowledge would make you more willing to create your own schedules? Or do you just think they are too time consuming?
I read http://loswonderkids.com/community/topic/3406-learning-how-to-train-effectively/ and I started to try and do that for some of my players however it is too time consuming. I would recommend only creating a training schedule for key players.

I dont usually do my own schedules, but I always make sure my players have a beneficial schedule. Using the default means you cannot concentrate on certain stats for certain players(eg finishing for strikers etc)
Do you think though if you have a striker who is already brilliant at finishing and many of the other attributes that you would you expect a striker to have it would be better to start looking at that player and concentrating on other attributes? Such as fitness, and mental attributes? which you might not necessary have all your strikers concentrating on.
Hi Thomas, I can’t say I have ever used training. However ive never really had a long enough game in previous FM’s, not since FM05 anyway. Atm i just buy some youth and let them develop themself. Recentley took some time to think about it and going to try implement some schedules for my new Arsenal game.
Signed Verratti and Salvio to start with so looking to get some chediles set up with them
I look forward to these training articles cos im clueless

Hi Dude, I will carry on producing these articles but take a look at http://www.fmpundit.com/2010/commentary/community/8-football-manager-guides/ there is some guides there from other sites that will really help you with training.
I have been using my own training schedules for a few years now. I decided that for FM09 that I wanted to get rid of the “has failed to impress this month” report from my assistant. The main reason you get this message is if you have a singular schedule for each position, for example, a striker having intense shooting training but no defensive training. Thus, failing to impress in training due to his lack of defensive training.
What I do is split the training up during the month, I have one schedule for technical improvement and one schedule for fitness. Obviously the technical improvement schedule (T1) concentrates solely on the key technical attributes for the players position. The fitness schedule (T2) does exactly that, but, I made sure that I combined the lesser used training sliders in this schedule meaning that I get no “failed to impress” messages (Other than old players deteriorating).
I’ve read a lot of articles about training in Football Manager and a lot of people have said consistency is the key, but I’ve not seen anyone use a split system to compare the results. I get great improvements from players and I don’t suffer with with a huge injury list.
That is a very interesting look at how you have setup your training their Joey, but do you think the results are worth the effort that you have put in? Also do you not think that it is a little inefficient in terms of what attributes they are improving.
I think it wouldn’t be too bad to say sacrifice a few defensive points, if this improves the attacking aspect of a strikers attributes much better. I would like to tailor my schedules to each player, but I don’t think the effort is worth it.
Also have you not considered maybe using schedules that allow your best players to play as they get much older, such as intensiving their fitness and strength training? These will be the attributes going down the quickest with age, this way you could slow down the rate of them going down, while maintaining good attributes elsewhere.
I just hope we see a major change in training this season that makes it worth while actually going into proper debate and strategy about it.
I have always (Since FM 07) set up a basic training schedule for the positions ie. DC WB MC WM DM AMC ST Target Man.
I will also set up individual schedules for promising and key players.
But as before a month ago i never read any forums or anything about fm i have never looked at the slider numbers. So my results have been varied.
One thing that would make training better is to do away with sliders and have it more like what they have done with tactics. So i can say for my Strikers i want minimal Def training with intenstive finishing. Maybe as a drop down menu for each category? that way i could tailor each players training with minimal effort.
